Building services

Our job is to make sure that buildings, fences, retaining walls and other structures are constructed safely. We do that by assessing and issuing building permits, inspecting works, investigating complaints and safety issues.

For private building surveyors

Submit sections 80, 30, 73 paperwork to us for your Banyule projects.

Request a report and consent dispensation

Ask for an exemption if your project does not meet the design and siting regulations.

Apply for an S29 demolition consent

Planning to demolish a building, or change the street frontage - before you do anything you need our consent.

Apply for a building permit

We issue domestic and commercial building permits for projects within Banyule.

Building site permits and work hours

Find out when work can proceed, and when you will need a permit.

Amend a building permit issued by Banyule BPI

To vary construction works or plans that we have approved, you need to apply to amend that permit.

Banyule City Council is proud to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people as traditional custodians of the land and we pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Elders, past, present and emerging, who have resided in the area and have been an integral part of the region's history.

Banyule is a diverse community, made up of people from different cultures, beliefs, abilities, bodies, ages, sexualities, genders and identities. Council is committed to inclusion, access and equity for everyone. These principles foster cohesiveness, empower people and improve the wellbeing of the Banyule community.
