Volunteering

We help you to help our community by:

• assigning a dedicated officer to look after your volunteering requirements
• ensuring you have the materials and equipment needed
• ensuring your relationships with staff are respectful and with open communication
• providing you regular and constructive feedback
• providing you space to express ideas, suggest improvements and discuss concerns
• formally recognising your contribution as a volunteer
• ensuring you are covered by insurance
• trusting you with confidential information, where necessary, to perform your role
• respecting your right to say no.

We will expect you to:

• represent us in a positive way
• adhere to our privacy policy
• be reliable and and on time for shifts, or to provide advance notice when unable to attend
• sign in and record start and finish times
• carry out your duties detailed in your position description
• understand your limitations and ask us for support when needed
• provide us with feedback, suggestions and recommendations regarding your role
• be respectful and support other co-workers
• be willing to accept supervision and training in order to effectively perform your role
• be accountable and accept evaluation.

Volunteers must work by the same code of conduct we ask our staff to follow.

You will receive a copy when you begin your role. As a volunteer, this means:

• using our resources appropriately
• disclosing any conflicts of interest
• maintaining confidentiality and privacy
• reporting unethical behaviour to your supervisor
• being respectful and treating people fairly
• adhering to child safe standards
• performing your role as part of a team
• ensuring that you and colleagues are working safely.

Health

To ensure a healthy work space, volunteers must agree to our on-site pandemic practices where applicable.

This may include:

• signing in using QR codes
• wearing a mask indoors
• provide evidence of your vaccination status or exemption
• using good hand hygiene
• social-distancing where possible.

If you feel unwell, stay home. Let your supervisor know so alternative arrangements can be made.

Enjoy working nature and creating a beautiful natural habitat for our community and wildlife to enjoy?

Join one of the many friends-of groups in regular working bees at the various reserves across Banyule. You will help with revegetation, weeding and bird surveying.

Requirements

To volunteer, you will need to:

• be physically fit
• work individually as well as in a team
• follow on-site safe work practices
• communicate with a diverse range of individuals.

We encourage residents to set aside an area in their garden for local wildlife. As a guide, you will be part of a team to visit and advise residents on potential changes needed to make their gardens wildlife friendly.

Requirements

To volunteer, you will need to:

• have good interpersonal skills
• have knowledge and interest of local flora and fauna
• work unsupervised in teams
• get a satisfactory National Criminal History Check and a Working with Children’s Check
• have access to a computer and email account
• independently commute to varied locations throughout Banyule.

Time commitment

On site and virtual visits are one hour maximum, not including travel time to and from locations. Report writing will vary, but guides are given 2 weeks to compile their feedback.

Join the Jets Events & Production Crew and learn what it takes to produce creative productions. You will be involved with video production, graphic design, music management and much more.

Requirements

To volunteer, you will need to:

• be passionate about events, music and creativity
• be between age 14-25
• work as part of a team

Time commitment

We require a minimum of 3 hours per week at variable times.
