World Breastfeeding Week 2025

Published on 01 August 2025

From 1-7 August, we join the global community in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week. This year’s theme, Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create sustainable support system, highlights the importance of accessible, ongoing support for families.

Community display

Our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service invites the community to explore a public display in the foyer of our Greensborough Customer Service Centre from Monday 4 August to Thursday 7 August during opening hours. The display offers resources and information to promote friendly feeding and its benefits for families and the environment.

Feeding journey support

Breastfeeding offers lifelong health benefits for both babies and parents, but it is a learned skill that takes time, patience and support.

Our MCH nurses are qualified in nursing, midwifery and child and family health and work closely with families from birth to school age, providing personalised, evidence-based support tailored to each family’s feeding needs.

Free support service

Our free Breastfeeding Support Service operates 4 days a week. Accessible through a referral from an MCH nurse, the service supports breastfeeding, bottle feeding, weaning and more, helping families overcome challenges and build confidence.

Why support matters

Ongoing, accessible support systems help families overcome barriers, clarify misconceptions and encourage healthy feeding practices that benefit both the community and the environment.

This community display is presented in partnership with Banyule Lactation Consultants and local Australian Breastfeeding Association groups Banksia and Diamond Valley.

We are proud to be a breastfeeding-friendly council for staff returning to work and welcomes all families to engage with our services and visit this year’s World Breastfeeding Week’s community display.
