We are aware of recent reports of green colouring in the creek at Chelsworth Park.
Our Environmental Operations Team inspected the site with Melbourne Water and confirmed the discolouration is consistent with a non-toxic, biodegradable dye commonly used in plumbing. While the source is unknown, inspections indicate there is no threat to human health or the environment, despite the visible colour.
As a precaution, we initially advised avoiding contact with the water while investigations were underway. Following further assessment, Melbourne Water has confirmed that no additional action is required within its drainage network.
Recent rainfall has cleared much of the discolouration, and further showers will continue to flush the system naturally. To reduce any remaining colour and community concern, we have also used our existing water quality infrastructure at Chelsworth Park to capture and treat residual traces within on-site treatment systems.
We will continue to monitor the area and work with relevant agencies as needed. We appreciate the community’s patience and support while we investigated and responded to this matter.
