Former Beale Ward Councillor Elizabeth Nealy has advised Banyule City Council of her resignation as a councillor effective 3 July 2026.
Cr Nealy has been a Councillor of Banyule City Council since 2020, and has held the role of Mayor in both 2021-2022 and 2024-2025 years.
Ms Nealy said it had been a privilege to serve the Banyule community since being elected in 2020 and she is proud of the many achievements of Council over that time including working with the community and helping others succeed through advocacy, good decision making and planning.
Council have informed the Minister for Local Government, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) and other relevant agencies of Ms Nealy’s resignation.
For Banyule where a vacancy exists in the Council, a by-election must occur. Further details will be provided to the community in due course about the holding, timing and specifics of a by-election.
Banyule City Council will continue to be represented by the current 8 Councillors until a new councillor is elected to the Beale Ward.
Community members in Beale Ward are encouraged to contact Mayor Alison Champion or any other Banyule Councillor or contact Council at enquiries@banyule.vic.gov.au or 9490 4222.
