Notice of intent to sell 162 Main Road, Lower Plenty
Published on 09 October 2026
Banyule Council gives notice of its intention to sell the Council owned land and improvements known as 162 Main Road, Lower Plenty, being the land comprised in certificate of title volume 9173 folio 971, a total area of approximately 1108m2. This proposal is made under section 114 of the Local Government Act 2020 (Act).
Following the relocation of the Veterans and Community Men’s Shed to purpose-renovated facilities at 203 Henry Street, Greensborough in mid 2027, the existing use of the property will cease. The new facility will improve accessibility and usability for the group. 162 Main Road will then become surplus to Council’s requirements and is proposed to be sold. A sale would not proceed until the relocation has occurred and the property is vacant.
The subject property is outlined in the figure on this page.

At its meeting on 13 July 2026, Council resolved to commence statutory procedures to give public notice of its intention to sell the Land and undertake a community engagement process in accordance with its Community Engagement Policy. Details of the decision can be found in the corresponding Banyule Council meeting minutes. We note that Council is not ultimately obliged to sell the Land following this process. Should Council ultimately decide to proceed with the sale, it would do so only after the vacancy of the property.
Any person may make a submission on the proposal. Any person proposing to make a submission must do so within 28 days of the publication of this Notice, which will commence on Friday, 9 October 2026.
All submissions will be considered and adhered to in accordance with section 114 of the Act and Council’s Community Engagement Policy 2021.
