Melbourne Water is updating flood maps for the Banyule area and we are helping ensure our community gets a chance to view and comment on the draft maps.
Up-to-date flood maps are important to help communities and agencies prepare for floods and know what to do if a flood happens. The maps also guide planning for roads, housing and our response to emergencies.
The new maps replace decades-old data with the clearest, most property-specific flood information ever produced for the area. Residents can view their property’s flood hazard based on projections for current climate conditions and future scenarios to the year 2100.
“Clear, reliable flood information helps our community plan ahead and make informed decisions about their homes and businesses. We trust the release of the new flood maps will support effective planning and stronger preparedness,” said Cr Alison Champion, Banyule City Mayor.
We are working with Melbourne Water on a series of community consultation sessions to take place in July. You’ll be able to view the maps, ask questions and share local knowledge that might support refinements to the final maps.
