Plans are underway for Banyule’s young people to have a new creative hub in the heart of Greensborough, with Council planning a purpose-built facility for Jets Studios at 1 Joyce Avenue.

Jets Studios is Council’s creative arts studio and programming space for young people and community groups. It is currently based in an industrial estate in Bundoora.

Council's 2023 Banyule Community Infrastructure Plan identified the need for a more appropriate home for Jets Studios, with transport and accessibility among the challenges young people face in accessing the current facility.

Jets Studios is about meeting young people where they are. Relocating to Joyce Avenue will bring the youth hub closer to public transport, central Greensborough and the community it serves.

Banyule Mayor Cr Alison Champion said the new location was an exciting opportunity for young people.

"Young people and their families have been asking for a more appropriate location, rather than a factory in an industrial estate. Now we are excited to be moving forward with plans for a purpose-built facility that is closer to public transport, the centre of Greensborough and where people actually live." , Mayor Cr Champion said.

Young people at the heart of the design

Young people will play a central role in shaping the new Jets Studios.

Engagement will include surveys, community pop-ups, the Youth Summit and YouthFest, targeted consultation and an ongoing Youth Project Advisory Group.

Families, schools, community organisations and youth service providers will also have opportunities to share their ideas and help shape the new facility.

Plans for former Joyce Avenue Children's Centre

The former Joyce Avenue Children's Centre, which is located at the new site of Jets Studios; recently closed following Council's review of its early childhood services. The review considered the condition and limitations of the ageing facility, local demand and the availability of other early childhood services in the area.

Council decided to close the service and demolish the existing building but keep the site in public ownership for community use.

The Joyce Avenue Children's Centre holds a special place in many people's hearts. It's fitting that this site will continue to serve our young people, and for some, coming to Jets Studios at 1 Joyce Avenue will be a return to the site where they spent their earliest years", said Mayor Cr Champion.
