Intergenerational play group and morning tea

Next date: Monday, 26 October 2026 | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This free intergenerational playgroup brings together young children, parents, grandparents and carers for a morning of stories, music, creativity and connection at Ivanhoe Library and Cultural Hub.

Enjoy live entertainment with children's performer Alicia O'Brien, arts and crafts activities, sensory play experiences facilitated by our Maternal and Child Health Team, and a complimentary morning tea.

The event provides a welcoming space for people of different ages to spend quality time together while building community connections.

Story time

Participants can enjoy a library story time at 10am and then come to the auditorium for play activities.

Why it is important

Intergenerational activities provide valuable opportunities for children and older adults to connect, learn from one another and strengthen community bonds.

This event encourages social connection, supports early childhood development through play-based learning, and creates opportunities for families and carers to engage with local services and community networks.

By bringing different generations together through shared experiences, the event fosters a sense of belonging and promotes positive wellbeing outcomes for participants of all ages.

The main objectives are to:

• encourage meaningful connections between generations.
• support children's learning and development through stories, music and play.
• promote social inclusion and community participation.
• connect families and carers with local library and Maternal and Child Health services.
• create opportunities for residents to build friendships and strengthen community networks.

Who this is for

This event is designed for:

• babies, toddlers and preschool-aged children.
• parents, grandparents and carers.
• families looking for free and engaging activities for young children.
• older adults interested in spending time with younger generations.
• residents seeking opportunities to connect with their local community.
