Join entomologist Dr Joshua Grubb for an evening of discovery and learn about the fascinating invertebrates that call the sanctuary home.

Discover the important roles insects and other invertebrates play in local ecosystems before heading outdoors to observe species in their natural environment using light traps.

What to expect

The evening will begin with an engaging presentation exploring the invertebrates found within the sanctuary and their role in the environment.

Participants will then head outdoors to view species attracted to light traps and learn how scientists observe and record biodiversity.

Attendees are encouraged to document their observations and contribute sightings to the Great Southern BioBlitz using iNaturalist.

Participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone or device if they would like to record sightings through iNaturalist and contribute to the Great Southern BioBlitz.

Location

The closest train station is Reservoir Station, with connecting bus services to La Trobe University. The nearest tram stop is Plenty Road/La Trobe University on Route 86. Bus routes serving the La Trobe University precinct include 301, 350, 561, 566 and 570, with stops within walking distance of the sanctuary entrance.
