Cat desexing program
Next date: Monday, 12 January 2026 | 08:45 AM
to 04:00 PM
We have teamed up with The Cat Protection Society of Victoria to offer a free, monthly cat desexing program: a compassionate initiative designed to support pet owners who live in Banyule and to promote feline wellbeing across our community.
Why desexing is important
Desexing your cat is not just about preventing unwanted litters, it is a vital step toward a longer, healthier life for your cat. The benefits of desexing include:
- reducing the risk of infections like uterine and prostate issues
- promoting longer life expectancy
- minimises roaming and lowering the chance of road accidents
- decreasing aggression and the spread of FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
- reducing spraying and marking
- preventing overpopulation and easing pressure on shelters
- lowering nuisance behaviours
- protecting native wildlife from predatory instincts.
Make an appointment
There will be 10 appointments available and a maximum of 2 cats per household each day this program runs.
Getting to the vet and when
You will need to drop off your cat(s) between 8.45-9.15am and collect your cat by 4pm on the day of surgery.
Transport your cat in a made-for-purpose crate.
Mobility assistance
We can assist with transportation arrangements for community members who may have accessibility restrictions or mobility limitations. Contact us on 9490 4222 or at enquiries@banyule.vic.gov.au
