Kalparrin Gardens

The rejuvenation of the lake in Kalparrin Gardens is an example of a local park with its own water supply.

The project is an innovative water conservation and quality improvement system that captures, treats and stores storm water underground for use on many parks and ovals in Greensborough. Storm water is harvested from a main drain flowing into Kalparrin Lake.

• The Kalparrin Lake project harvest up to 17 Olympic sized pools' worth of storm water per year.
• Key water quality improvements include the removal of approximately 50 tonnes of litter, 120 tonnes sediment, 700 kilograms nitrogen and 200 kilograms of phosphorous from the storm water that flows into Kalparrin Lake, and the Plenty and Yarra rivers.
• Habitat for local wildlife is improved.
