Integrated Transport Plan 2015-2035
Our Integrated Transport Plan 2015–2035 provides a long-term framework for transport and land use planning across Banyule. The plan supports a city with accessible, sustainable and active communities, where people have safe and convenient access to jobs, education, shopping, services and community opportunities.
The plan responds to challenges including population growth, an ageing community, climate change, increasing urban density and rising pressure on the transport network. It recognises that continued reliance on private vehicles is not sustainable and promotes a more balanced transport system that supports walking, cycling and public transport alongside road networks.
Transport is recognised as a key contributor to community wellbeing, economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. The plan seeks to improve how people move throughout Banyule while protecting the liveability, neighbourhood character and local identity valued by our community.
The strategy is guided by 6 transport objectives that support an integrated and sustainable transport network over a 20-year period.
Accessibility and mobility
We will support a safe, efficient and connected transport network that improves access for people of all ages and abilities.
Walking and cycling
We will encourage active transport through safer pedestrian routes, improved cycling connections and infrastructure that supports healthier travel choices.
Public transport
We will advocate for improved public transport services, better connections and greater accessibility across the municipality.
Managing road use and parking
We will work to improve safety, manage congestion and support fair and effective parking outcomes.
Supporting sustainable growth
We will align land use and transport planning to accommodate future growth while maintaining a high quality of life.
Advocacy and partnerships
We will continue working with government agencies and stakeholders to address transport challenges and secure improvements to the network.
Overall, the plan provides a vision for a safer, more connected and sustainable Banyule, helping create a transport system that supports community wellbeing, economic activity and environmental responsibility over the long term.
