Inclusive Economy Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2031
Our Inclusive Economy Strategy 2026–2031 outlines how we will support a inclusive local economy from 2026 to 2031. It brings together our economic, employment and social enterprise priorities into one framework focused on participation, opportunity and long-term sustainability. We want Banyule to be a place where people and businesses can prosper and belong.
The strategy responds to economic change, including growth in healthcare, education and professional services, evolving work patterns and business pressures. We recognise some residents continue to experience barriers to work and economic participation.
We will act as an enabler, connector and leader, using partnerships, programs, procurement and assets to help businesses grow, connect people with work and support wellbeing locally.
A strong and connected business community
We will reduce barriers, improve business support, strengthen skills and connections, promote sustainable practices and celebrate local business achievements widely.
Workforce skills and inclusive employment pathways
We will support people facing barriers to employment through job readiness, skills development and inclusive pathways into work, training and economic participation.
Vibrant precincts and activity centres
We will invest in welcoming, accessible and active centres that support businesses, increase visitation, encourage local spending and strengthen community connection.
Social enterprise leadership
We will strengthen social enterprises and Aboriginal businesses through partnerships, sustainable procurement, business support and shared value opportunities.
Enabling business growth, investment and future employment
We will support long-term growth through coordinated planning, advocacy, investment and development of key employment precincts.
Our central commitment is to deliver 4,000 inclusive economic opportunities between 2026 and 2031 through jobs, employment pathways, mentoring, networking, business support, procurement, promotion, social enterprise initiatives and Aboriginal business development. We will report annually on progress, helping us remain accountable, transparent and responsive while building a more prosperous, equitable and resilient Banyule for everyone.
