Banyule Council has launched the Banyule’s Ready advocacy campaign ahead of Victoria’s state election in November 2026.

The campaign calls on all political parties and candidates to back priority projects and policy reforms that will support Banyule’s growing community – both now and into the future.

These asks are sensible, backed by evidence, and are much needed by our community. They include:

  • funding to upgrade and fully electrify the aquatic facilities at Ivanhoe Aquatic, which are at the end of their life
  • much-needed upgrades and accessibility improvements to Watsonia Station
  • investment to make safe Melbourne’s most dangerous roundabout at the top of the Greensborough Bypass
  • establishing a hub in Heidelberg West to bring sought-after community services into a fit-for-purpose building
  • ongoing funding for outreach services for those experiencing homelessness and sleeping rough
  • a commitment to enact a 24-hour truck ban on local roads when North-East Link opens
  • reforms to respect local voices, protect tree canopy and good design outcomes through the planning system.

As part of the campaign, we will publish relevant election commitments online that align with our priorities.

We are asking Banyule locals to get behind the campaign and contact their relevant members and candidates – which are all detailed in each advocacy priority.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Alison Champion

“Council often needs to speak up on behalf of the community to push for things we can’t deliver on our own, so we’re making our priorities very clear with this upcoming election”.

“We’re advocating for practical projects and reforms that will improve everyday living, accessibility, safety, sustainability, and wellbeing right across Banyule”.

“Banyule’s ready is a non-partisan campaign for our community, so we’ll publish any and all commitments so our community can clearly see which candidates are backing us here in Banyule”.
