Waterbugs at the sanctuary
Next date: Monday, 27 October 2025 | 11:00 AM
to 12:00 PM
Experience the diversity of life that lives beneath the water and help us catch waterbugs.
As part of the Great Southern Bioblitz, we will be sampling the sanctuary wetlands to record as many species as possible.
We need people to come and help collect waterbugs out of the samples.
Using the app
Download the iNaturalist app to your device or set up an account on your computer.
Make observations and upload them to iNaturalist (you can make observations at any time, but only those over the weekend will count as part of the Bioblitz).
The information collected is highly useful for local biodiversity managers to see trends in our natural environment and help them plan for better future outcomes.
Don't worry if you can't identify the organism. Just make sure you get some good clear photos or sounds (iNaturalist uses artificial intelligence to suggest identifications and experts will be able to verify what your living thing is).
What to bring
Please ensure you have weather appropriate clothing, closed toed shoes and drinking water. You can also bring a mobile phone to make observations. The sorting area will be under cover.
Children are very welcome and encouraged to attend but must be under parent or guardian supervision at all times.
