Learn how to graft fruit trees
Next date: Wednesday, 15 July 2026 | 07:30 PM
to 09:00 PM
Learn the art of fruit tree grafting in this free online workshop as part of our Home Harvesting initiative. Grafting is a practical and cost-effective way to grow multiple fruit varieties on a single tree, extend your harvest season and make the most of your garden space.
The session will cover:
- grafting techniques
- tips from experienced growers
- how to source suitable materials for different fruit trees
- equipment you need to get started without spending a fortune.
The workshop will be presented by Scott Hitchins, a founding member of the Werribee Park Heritage Orchard and an experienced workshop facilitator.
Who this event is for
This workshop is open to everyone, from beginner gardeners through to experienced fruit growers. It's ideal for anyone interested in growing their own food, improving the productivity of their fruit trees or learning new gardening skills.
Why this is important
Grafting can help you increase the variety of fruit you grow while saving money and making better use of your garden space. For example, an existing apple tree can support several varieties of apples, giving you a longer harvest season and a wider range of fruit rather than a large crop ripening all at once.
You will gain practical knowledge from an experienced presenter and learn skills that can be applied to many types of fruit trees.
What to expect
During this online workshop, you will learn:
- basics of fruit tree grafting
- common grafting techniques and best practices
- how to select and source suitable grafting materials
- tools and equipment needed to get started
- tips and tricks from an experienced practitioner.
