The autumn months within our bushland reserves are the quiet before the storm of winter’s annual weed season. To make the most of this time, the Bush Crew has been removing woody weeds along the Plenty River corridor.

Weeds such as broom, hawthorn, pittosporum, oak, gorse and Cassinia sifton have the ability to spread easily along wildlife corridors as seeds are carried by water, wind and wildlife.

Seeds are dispersed along the riverbanks and hard-to-reach areas of the wetland escarpments, competing with indigenous plant species for resources and choking the Plenty River's vegetation communities. The Bush Crew, along with the Friends of the Plenty River, has been cutting the weeds out and dabbing the stumps with herbicide to ensure there is no new growth.
