Gym equipment updates

Refreshed gym

Banyule Leisure and Ivanhoe Aquatic are excited to share that the full transformed gym at Ivanhoe Aquatic will open 6 AM Friday 5 December.

The equipment and refresh includes:

  • the replacement of all plate & pin loaded plus free weight strength equipment
  • all new cardio machines
  • several pieces of equipment never featured on the Ivanhoe Aquatic gym floor.

We also took this opportunity to replace the flooring in the gym and complete a general refresh of the entire gym area.

Significant consideration was given to the results of member feedback received from a Gym Equipment member survey conducted in October 2024, as well as taking into account current and future fitness trends and available spaces.

We are beyond excited to reveal this incredible next chapter of the Ivanhoe Aquatic gym to our members!

Key dates

In order to complete this exciting project, we will be required to close the Ivanhoe Gym and adjacent rooms for a short period of time to remove and install current and new gym equipment, remove and install new flooring and electricals and to undertake other required works in the gym area.

We thank you in advance for your patience while we work with our contractors during this closure period to ensure we are providing you the best workout experience once we reopen.

Gym closed: from Thursday 13 November to Thursday 4 December inclusive

Reopening: Friday 5 December

Working out during closure dates

We are as keen as you to keep exercising leading up to summer. So we've come up with several options for you to continue your workouts.

Alternative exercise options during the gym closure period:

  • New small group training sessions
  • Additional functional classes
  • Outdoor exercise stations to be located on the outside lawn
  • Personal training sessions will continue as per your trainers programming, just not in the gym!
  • Our group fitness timetable will remain relatively unchanged, with the exception being for class styles that operate within the gym
  • Alternative programming for Living Stronger and TRX classes
  • The Ivanhoe Aquatic pool hall, including the spa and sauna, are unaffected by the scheduled works in the gym
  • Olympic Leisure access as per Ivanhoe Aquatic membership conditions
    • An additional 3 hours of facility access has been added on weekdays, 12.30pm to 3.30pm
  • Gym-only, standard opening hours access to WaterMarc (non-24/7 access) and Macleod Recreation and Fitness Centre
    • Ivanhoe Aquatic wrist bands to be presented to reception at both WaterMarc and Macleod Recreation and Fitness Centre

TRX and Living Stronger - what's happening during the closure?

Due to the gym closure, both TRX classes and the Living Stronger programs have had amendments made to accommodate for the temporary change in available equipment and spaces. TRX classes will not be conducted with TRX equipment and will temporarily revert to functional training style classes during the closure.

All classes will be made available on XplorRec for pre-booking as per regular scheduling.

Functional training classes replacing TRX

These functional training classes are 50 minutes, up from the 30mins of TRX classes.

Due to the size of the Functional Studio, capacity of the classes will decrease slightly to 8 per class.
