We are launching the 2026 round of our annual Inclusive Employment Program. Now in its 7th year, the program has employed 80 Banyule residents who faced barriers to employment.

Successful applicants complete 6 months of paid work at Council, with each position tailored to the person’s areas of interest and abilities. They are supported by individual and group coaching and opportunities that build work skills and professional networks.

Inclusive Employment Program was the first of its kind in local government and has been used as a model by other councils to help combat local unemployment.

Kate’s story

“I’ve been a Banyule resident my whole life and I’d heard good things about Council from others who work here. I wanted to work with the local community in an inclusive workplace.

My highlights were being part of a positive workplace culture and gaining valuable experience and confidence being back in the workforce after a break. There are so many opportunities for growth. I put my hand up to do more training in volunteering.

My advice to other applicants is to be very specific about the role you want to go for. Really think about why you want to be here.”
