Giving with purpose
Published on 01 December 2025
This Christmas, new year and holiday season, make every gift count. Gifting with purpose sparks joy, supports local businesses and makes a positive impact close to home.
This year, we encourage everyone to give good and support local through 5 simple actions:
- Donate
- Shop local
- Give local
- Get social
- Green and sustainable gifting
Responsible giving
For over 24 years, the Banyule Children’s Gift Appeal has helped brighten Christmas mornings for local families experiencing hardship. Last year alone, 459 children received gifts thanks to the generosity of our community.
Alongside this, the Banyule Community Fund raised $36,724 to support local charities and non-profits in areas like housing, food security, mental health and the arts.
Buying local
There are over 11,000 small businesses in Banyule. Together, they contribute to the local economy, provide local jobs and are central to creating our community vibe. When you purchase from them, you are helping your own neighbourhood thrive.
When you shop local, you are doing more than ticking off your holiday list, you are strengthening our community.
Sustainable gifting
Sustainable gifting reduces landfill and adds a personal touch to your celebrations. Small choices make a big difference. Consider low-waste, thoughtful gifts. You can also make something, bake something or give experiences instead of items.
