Recording the world around you

Led by sound designer Roderick Price, this is a hands-on audio field recording workshop where participants explore the art of capturing and shaping environmental sound.

Using a range of sensitive microphones and professional recording gear, participants will discover hidden sonic worlds in everyday spaces.

Through guided fieldwork, digital manipulation, and audio composition processes, this workshop invites participants to listen deeply, experiment boldly and transform recorded sound into creative works.

Youth-focused

This is a youth-focused workshop designed for participants aged 13 to 25 who have a keen interest in sound design, field recording or audio production. Whether you are a curious beginner, a budding sound artist, or someone looking to deepen your creative audio practice, this workshop is open to all experience levels.

If you are passionate about sound and eager to explore the world through your ears, this is for you.

What to bring

All recording equipment necessary for the workshop will be provided, including headphones, memory cards and a variety of high-sensitivity microphones and field recording gear.

However, participants are strongly encouraged to bring:

• laptop for audio documenting, editing and experimenting with your recordings during the workshop
• any personal recording devices or microphones you would like to test or use
• personal headphones for monitoring and editing (optional but recommended)
• notebook or journal if you would like to sketch, log or reflect on your recording process.

This is a hands-on workshop, and we encourage you to bring tools you're familiar with or curious to learn more about!

Location

Parking is available at ILCH. Venue is a 5-minute walk from Ivanhoe Train Station. The 510 and 548 bus routes stop at the venue.
