Grey Water Reuse
During periods of prolonged drought and water restrictions, residents may reuse grey water to irrigate their lawns or gardens.
Grey water is domestic waste water from sources including showers, baths, hand basins, clothes washing machines, laundry troughs, dishwashers and sinks (excluding toilet and urinal waste).
There are two methods for reusing grey water:
- Diversion only, where the grey water is diverted directly to the lawn or garden. A permit is not required from Council’s Health Services Unit to do this. Grey water must not flow onto neighbouring properties, or cause a nuisance to other residents.
- Storage, when grey water is stored for more than 24 hours for future reuse, approval from Council’s Health Services Unit is required.
