Relief and support: COVID-19

Many community and government support services for individuals, families and businesses are open and ready to help you during this challenging pandemic.

Emergency

Counselling and emergency relief

Local community support centres are available Monday to Friday to:

  • talk through personal or family problems, confidentially with trained volunteers;
  • access food parcels, food bank referrals and supermarket vouchers;
  • help with costs of prescriptions and communications.

Finances

Income support

The Australian Government has:

  • expanded eligibility to receive income support payments temporarily;
  • introduced a temporary coronavirus supplement paid at $550 per fortnight;
  • announced 2 separate $750 economic support payments to social security, veterans and other income support recipients and eligible concession card holders.

Child care

The Australian Government has temporarily changed funding arrangements for child care in response to coronavirus: no child care fees will be due between 6 April and 28 June 2020.

Ratepayers

We are deferring rates for ratepayers experiencing financial hardship 

The deferral applies for up to 15 months from the last quarter of 2019/20 to the 4th quarter of 2020/21. 

Deferral requests will consider the individual needs of ratepayers, and no interest will be charged for the deferral period.

Extension on animal registration renewal fee

The new due date for all registration renewals is 10 June 2020.
