New Mayor for Banyule

Grimshaw Ward Councillor, Rick Garotti has been elected Mayor of Banyule for 2020/2021.

The Mayoral Election was held on Wednesday 11 November at the Banyule Council Chambers in Greensborough.

Cr Garotti has served as a councillor at Banyule Council since 2012 and was deputy mayor in 2019/2020

Ibbott Ward Councillor, Tom Melican was elected Deputy Mayor.

Cr Garotti said it is a tremendous honour to serve as Mayor and he looks forward to unitedly serving the community with his fellow councillors. Cr Garrotti said the new Council had a lot of exciting work to do and challenges to meet.

"2020 has been a truly difficult year for our community and the challenges of COVID-19 have impacted many. As a Council we are rolling up sleeves, we are back to work and we are serving our community. Our focus is to support the community to recover and rebuild from COVID-19 and put in place our vision and plans to keep Banyule the best place for people to live, work, invest and raise a family." Cr Garotti said.

"I'm incredibly privileged to be supported by an experienced Deputy Mayor, fellow returning councillors and our newest councillors who I know will all be a valuable support to me as we plan for Banyule's future."

Cr Garotti also acknowledged the dedication and work of outgoing councillors Wayne Phillips and Craig Langdon and congratulated the outgoing Mayor, Cr Alison Champion, for her tireless leadership and commitment to the community as outgoing Mayor.
