Young asylum seekers tell their stories

Part of this exhibition was developed by Deakin University Art Gallery through a practical program that supported members of the ASRC Youth Group to develop their distinct artistic practices.

Stories told in this exhibition are heartfelt and personal, demonstrating the creativity, courage, resourcefulness and resilience of these young artists.

This is a Deakin University Art Gallery travelling exhibition in partnership with Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Hatch Contemporary Arts Space and Banyule Youth Services. Curated by Vanja Radisic (Deakin University), and Steph Neoh (Banyule Council).

Works by local artist Sha Sarwari

This exhibition also features artworks by local artist, Sha Sarwari. Sarwari is an accomplished multidisciplinary visual artist from Afghanistan, whose work is influenced by his personal experience of seeking asylum in Australia and the journey he undertook to become an Australian citizen.
