At home activityThe Thousand Star Project
Every year in the 4th week of October we recognise the talent of Australian children, their contribution to society and their rights by celebrating Children's Week across the nation. This year, the Australian Children's Week theme is:
Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.
We are encouraging children and the community to make a lantern and help us illuminate these dark times!
Share your work
Keep a candle burning in the window for a visitor.
Send us an image of your lantern as a symbol of resilience and hope to be included in our public gallery.

Make your own lanterns
Follow the video tutorials to make a star or jar lantern at home and hang it in your window.
Create your own star or jar lanterns from readily available household materials. Collaborate as a household, or each make your own.
Younger children will need guidance. But remember, you don't need to be a child to make a lantern... everyone is invited to take part in the project!
Do not leave your lantern unattended or lit overnight. As a safety precaution, assemble your lantern with 4 walls, instead of 5, to allow the heat from the LED light to escape.
