Reels on Wheels: Projector Bike Rides

A film projected onto a public space screen.

Reels on Wheels is a program of 3 curated bike rides throughout Banyule, featuring short films created by local artists, projected onto different sites and surfaces along the ride.

Bring your own bike with appropriate night riding lights, and be confident in your riding ability. See the ride maps for routes and distances.

Free public event

There will a free community event at Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub on 25 March before the ride with live music and food vendors. It is open to everybody, not only bike ride participants.

The rides

Route 1

This ride begins at JETS Studio in Bundoora and ends at Watsonia Library. It runs for 4.25km.

  • Projector Bike Ride induction at 8pm
  • First screening will start at 8:30pm
  • Stop 1: Jets Studios
  • Ride 650m to Stop 2: Maternal and Child Health Centre, Noorong Ave, Bundoora
  • Ride 600m to Stop 3: Telfer Reserve toilet block
  • Ride 1.8km to Stop 4: 88 Gleeson Drive, Bundoora
  • Ride 500m to Stop 5: 49 Morwell Ave, Watsonia
  • Ride 700m to Stop 6: Watsonia Library

Route 2

This ride begins at the railway overpass in Rosanna Parklands South (at the corner of Ellesmere Parade and Lower Plenty Road) ends at Rosanna Station carpark. It runs for 4.9km.

  • Projector Bike Ride induction at 7.30pm
  • First screening will start at 8pm
  • Stop 1: Railway overpass, opposite Rosanna Parklands
  • Ride 1.5km to Stop 2: Macleod Junior Football Club, 50 Chapman St, Macleod
  • Ride 850m to Stop 3: NETS Stadium, 2 Somers Avenue, Macleod
  • Ride 250m to Stop 4: Macleod Community Hall, 7 Birdwood Avenue, Macleod
  • Ride 1.2km to Stop 5: Rosanna Parklands screen 1
  • Ride 350m to Stop 6: Rosanna Parklands screen 2
  • Ride 750m to Stop 7: Rosanna Train Station car park, opposite 44 Turnham Avenue, Rosanna

Route 3

This ride begins and ends at Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub. It runs for 7.15km.

  • Community event open from 6pm
  • Projector Bike Ride induction at 7.30pm
  • First screening will start at 8pm
  • Stop 1: Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub on the outdoor deck
  • Ride 850m to Stop 2: Scout Hall, 48 Ford St, Ivanhoe
  • Ride 500m to Stop 3: Ivanhoe Sea Scouts, 49 Hawker St, Ivanhoe
  • Ride 1km to Stop 4: Bellfield Community Hall, 231 Banksia St, Ivanhoe
  • Ride 1.7km to Stop 5: Darebin Parklands screen 1
  • Ride 2.1km to Stop 6: Nellie Ibbott Park toilet block
  • Ride 1km to end point: Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub

Vaccination requirements

We require all participants for the bike rides to be fully vaccinated due to the close proximity, physical exertion, no masks during the rides. You will be asked to show your booking and proof of vaccination status upon arrival.

The 25 March event is an outdoor gatherings and does not require tickets or proof of vaccination. (due to changing circumstances, please check for updates closer to the event).
