Boulevard Lights

For 10 days each December, The Boulevard in Ivanhoe East is illuminated with Christmas lights.

COVID-19 has affected how we work, live and gather. We have all needed to adapt to various restrictions and altered events, and Boulevard Lights 2020 is no exception.

The progressive reopening of Victoria and recently announced easing of restrictions has been welcomed by all. The Victoria Government recently released a Public Events Framework to support Victoria to in a COVID-normal environment.

With thousands attending The Boulevard each year, the Public Events Framework classifies the event as highly complex in terms of COVID-safe planning. To do so, we would need to respond to 5 key requirements to reduce transmission risk in a public place, and ultimately, only possibly be granted a permit.

Addressing these areas is simply not achievable given the time and extensive requirements required, and the event exceeds the density quotient legally allowed to occupy an event.

The health and safety of our community has always been and will continue to be what drives our decision making. We understand that the event is loved by many, but looking after our community and adhering to Victorian Government guidelines is essential.

We all deserve a celebration after the year we have endured. Although we cannot come together this year, we can still celebrate by taking our Carols by Candlelight event online in 2020.
