Malahang Community Festival 2018
We had some delicious food stalls this year with vegan, Halal, vegetarian options from The Gozleme Station, Dum & Dumpling, a community BBQ and much more: there was something tasty for everyone.
The sporting fields were filled with activities. Melbourne City Football club setting up a pitch for 5-on-a-side Soccer games, Rec-Link ran Volleyball all day and Melbourne Disc Golf offered play in the trees.
There were plenty of activities to experience, with stallholders providing everything from henna tattoos, monster bubbles, making a cloak and even a snake pit.
Malahang Main Stage
There was a full program of performances and demonstrations by Anti-Gravity Circus performance, Super Mande African Percussion, Melbourne Contemporary Choir, Lotus Middle Eastern Dance Troupe, Keynote Singers and POW Acrobats.
The finale was a new addition to the festival, an Upcycled Multicultural Fashion Show - including the Textile Art Community and Somali Modest and Glam Dress for men and women with MC Najma Ali, Mrs. Australia Globe!
To wrap it all up: a KISS costumed cover band with Jets Studio and Shop 48!
Malahang Melting Pot Stage
A fusion of food and culture – featured live cultural cooking demonstrations with donated vegies and herbs from the local community gardens to satisfy every taste and the opportunity to sample the different cuisines prepared.
Back by popular demand, the Banyule Has Talent stage showcased some of the local communities’ best talent. There was singing, there was plenty of dancing.
In between heats of Banyule Has Talent we had performances by St Pius School Choir and the Exiled on High Street band.
Olympic Village Makers Market
Packed to the brim with local artists, collectors and trinket sellers, the Olympic Village Makers Market took over a massive section of the Malahang Festival site. Just in time for early Christmas shopping.

Arts and crafts
Whether it’s with Banyule Council’s Early Years, Health team, Community Services team or Banyule Leisure, there was loads of arts activities and making spaces for everyone to try out their artistic skills including yummy snack cups, a team cloak creation project, projection tent and an interactive photo booth.
Banyule's Youth Services tent was a hive of activity where you could get your hair braided, be daring with a temporary tattoo or get creative making your own badges.
Jets Studio was also involved in the Main Stage finale act with a KISS cover band to round out the day.
