A year too early to start kindergarten

Realised your child has been registered a year too early for kindergarten? To change your child’s year of entry contact the Banyule Kindergarten Support Officer on 9490 4222.

  • Changing the year does not automatically guarantee your child a position at a kindergarten in the following year
  • This change is treated the same as a new registration with your registration date set to 1 March in the following year.
  • Your child's registration will be included in the kindergarten allocation process the next year.

Update kindergarten preferences

You can change kindergarten preferences after you sign in to our kindergarten portal anytime up until 30 June the year before attending kindergarten. Your original registration date will be maintained.

To make changes after 30 June, call our Kindergarten Support Officer on 9490 4222. Changes made to your 1st preference kindergarten after 30 June are treated the same as new registrations, with the date you make the change considered your registration date.

No Jab, no play: immunisation is a must

All children must be immunised according to their age to attend kindergarten. You must provide proof of your child's Immunisation history to the kindergarten prior to attendance. Go to Better Health Channel: No Jab No Play for more information.

Fees for kindergarten

The Victorian Government is rolling out funding for 3-year-old kindergarten. 5 hours of funded 3-year-old-kindergarten will commence from 2022, and increase to 15 hours a week by 2029.

4-year-old kindergarten placements are also funded by the Department of Education and Training for 15 hours per week.

Additionally, each centre sets its own term fee that families are required to pay.

You may be eligible for free or low cost kindergarten through the kindergarten fee subsidy if:

  • your child is identified by a parent, carer or legal guardian as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • your child holds, or has a parent or guardian who holds a Commonwealth Health Care card, Commonwealth Pensioner Concession card, Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold card or White Card (asylum seeker visa)
