Malahang Community Festival is a free and family-friendly event celebrating your local community. It’s a safe, fun and exciting day for the whole family with music, games, competitions, stalls, food and information. Join thousands of others who come to celebrate a day long festival, accessible to people from all walks of life.
Malahang Community Festival is a fantastic opportunity for local artists, community groups, traders and other organisations to be seen and heard as well as meet and interact with the local community.
Bring along a picnic or grab a sausage for a gold coin from the Community BBQ and sit back and enjoy the entertainment or get involved in some of the awesome activities.
Malahang Main Stage
A full program of performances and demonstrations by musicians, dancers, choirs, drummers, cultural groups and more!
Malahang Melting Pot Stage
A fusion of food and culture – featuring live cultural cooking demonstrations and the opportunity to sample the different cuisines prepared
With skate & scooter competitions in the morning and hip hop MC’s and dancers on the Youth Stage in the arvo, Banyule Youth Services and Jets have you covered!
Olympic Village Makers Market
Packed to the brim with local artists, collectors and trinket sellers, the Olympic Village Makers Market will take over a massive section of the Malahang Festival site. Just in time for your early Christmas shopping, make sure you wander through and see what’s on offer.
Banyule Has Talent Stage
Back by popular demand, the Banyule Has Talent stage will showcase some of the local communities’ best talent. There will be singing, there will be dancing, there will be karaoke! You too can have you 3 minutes of fame and step onto the stage to belt out your favourite ballad when the karaoke machine rolls out in-between the competition performers.
Environment and Sustainability
This year Banyule City Council’s Environment team has everything you need to know to satisfy your sustainability needs! Bring your excess lemons or tomatoes and join in the veggie swap run by Transition 3081, grab some free native plant seedlings and get info on your local environment.
With local clubs on hand there will be come and try clinics for Netball, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer and AFL. Come and have a play and a chat with the local sports clubs about their programs.
Arts and Crafts
Whether it’s with Banyule Council’s Early Years or Health team or one of many local community groups, there will be loads of arts activities and making spaces for you to try out your artistic skills.
Sensory Safe Chill Out Space
If the sights and sounds of the festival get a bit too much you can retreat into the Yarra Plenty Regional Library marquee for some quiet activity or even just rest your legs and relax into a beanbag.
Stallholder applications for the Malahang Community Festival are closed for 2017.
Community Groups may wish to hold a stall at a festival and increase their profile in the community and/or fund raise, or hold a food or market stall.

How to get there
Corner of Southern Rd and Oriel Rd,
Why not walk or ride your bike to the Malahang Community Festival? It’s the environmental option and it saves you searching for a car park as there is limited street parking available.
There are several bus routes to get you here.
Pick up a Travel Smart Map from a Council Service Centre, or go to www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au for more info. The 903, 250 and 517 buses are all excellent options.
If you plan on driving to the festival, please ensure you follow ALL permanent and temporary parking signs. Please do not block driveways or park on Southern Rd. Traffic officers will book vehicles parked illegally.
Accessible parking is available in the Malahang Reserve car park for people with a disabled parking permit. The Phonic Ear system is available for the main stage and there are accessible toilets on-site.
