The Grand Parade kicks off the Kids ArtyFarty Fest each year with a flourish of colour and movement, and invites the community to 'get their spectacle on'!
Sunday 19 March 2017
10.00 am - 11.00 am
Parade registrations for 2017 are no longer open.
Marching down Burgundy Street into Sills Bend the Grande Parade provides a lively opportunity to bring Banyule’s diverse groups together in a celebration of creativity, community and childhood!
Sponsored by The Heidelberg Central Traders the Grand Parade is a family-friendly affair and welcomes entries from community organisations, schools, sporting clubs, businesses and any group in Banyule keen to embrace the spirit of community connectedness and creative imagination.
In 2017 our parade theme is The Water Cycle.
Water flows through and around Banyule… the Yarra and Plenty Rivers, Darebin Creek, our wetlands and billabongs… we live, work and play alongside it.
March is also the season of the eel (or iuk) for the people of the Kulin Nations.
Did you know that we have always had the same water on planet earth? It moves constantly through a natural cycle of evaporation, condensation and precipitation which cleans water and allows it to move around the earth.
We could be drinking the same water that dinosaurs once drank!
Let your ideas flow … How inventive can you be in expressing the water cycle - and how or who it impacts - in the parade?
Prizes are awarded for entries in the parade under the following categories:
- Most Creative Entry
- Best Themed Entry
- Most Colourful Entry
- Best School Entry
- Best Community Entry
- Judges Choice
In 2016 the parade attracted over 1000 people and 30 groups marched. Check out the 2016 parade photos here.
