Council offers advice on the removal of Asbestos in the home.

Asbestos removal in the workplace is governed by the Occupational Health & Safety (Asbestos) 1992 Regulations. Strict handling requirements apply and only approved registered removalists, under the Regulations have the expertise and equipment to remove asbestos from the workplace.

Asbestos removal from around the home on private property is a public health issue and is not covered by the above regulation applicable to the workplace. Environmental Health officers can regulate the handling of asbestos on private property by applying the Health Act nuisance provisions.
