Council has completed and adopted a Stormwater Management Plan to address stormwater quality and quantity issues, particularly as they affect the receiving waters, including our local rivers and streams - and ultimately Port Phillip Bay.
A steering committee of officers from Council, Melbourne Water and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was created to guide the process. A consultant was engaged to facilitate the development of the plan.
The Stormwater Management Plan identifies actions that have been developed in response to current threats. These actions have been costed and given an indicative year from the commencement of the plan by which they should be implemented. In 2002/03 Council has allocated $127,000 (to be shared dollar for dollar with the State Government).
The adoption and implementation of the Stormwater Management Plan provides Council with the strategic basis for improved stormwater management and hence the improved environmental condition of waterways and wetlands in the Banyule area.
