We provide fourteen weeks of paid maternity leave and one week paid paternity leave. The
opportunity to extend the maternity leave for an additional 12 months and the right to request
part-time employment until the child reaches school age.
Banyule City Council offers a variety of employment programs aimed at attracting and developing the talented people of our organisation. In addition to the professional opportunities we provide, the two fantastic employment programs/opportunities we offer are:
Banyule Council offers School Based Apprenticeships (ABS) and Traineeships across a number of its business units.
School Based Apprenticeships are offered to students in senior secondary schools who combine VCE, VCAL and VET as they undertake an Apprenticeship. Students are offered paid employment by council for one day per week while they continue their schooling.
Traineeships are offered for twelve months in a number of areas and are advertised throughout the year.
Apprenticeships are also available, usually in horticulture, landscaping and community services.
Banyule City Council offers work experience placements for students in a dynamic local government environment. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a diverse range of professional streams at Council. We endeavour to help students meet their educational requirements, develop and enhance their skills and knowledge while being exposed to the ‘real'
world of work.
Students are required to put any request for work experience in writing addressed to Joyce Thomsett, Human Resources (PO Box 51, Ivanhoe 3079). Applicants should ensure the dates of the requested placement are stated in their application. Students should also try to list the type of work they are looking for experience in.
