Hours of Operation:

Monday - Friday 7.30am - 3.00pm
Weekends and Public Holidays 7.30am - 12.00pm

(Closed New Year's Day, Good Friday, Anzac Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.)

Council has upgraded its Waste Recovery Centre and now incorporates the latest technologies, ensuring improved user and operator safety and more efficient traffic movement.  The facility is a leader in providing for diversion of waste from landfill and Council continues to explore for additional recycling opportunities so as to help the community meet its waste minimisation objectives and obligations.

A Recycling Drop-off area is incorporated in the facility.  It offers free disposal into separate receptacles, of many different recyclable materials, including glass, plastic, steel and paper products - even batteries, oil, aluminium and clothing.

Both recyclable and non-recyclable materials can be brought directly to the Banyule Waste Recovery Centre.

The following can be dropped off free-of-charge:

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Steel cans
  • Aluminium cans
  • Plastic containers (Code 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7)
  • Paper and cardboard (non commercial)
  • Motor oil (up to 10 litres are free and anything over that is 10 cents per litre)
  • Oil and water based paints
  • Corks
  • Household batteries
  • Car batteries
  • Gas cylinders
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Clothes
  • Juice and milk cartons
  • CD's
  • DVD's

A fee applies to other recyclable materials, such as concrete, timber, car bodies, tyres, metal and vegetation as well as household waste that cannot be recycled. 

Computer Recycling
Drop off your unwanted computers and peripherals to Byteback at the City of Boroondara Riversdale Road Transfer Station, 648 Riversdale Road, Camberwell.  Monday to Friday: 1pm - 4pm.  Weekends: 8am-4pm.

Council reserves the right to refuse any waste.

Hazardous material such as asbestos.

Chemicals

Public Weighbridge

Council operates a public weighbridge between 7.30am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday (not open public holidays). You don't need an appointment. The weighbridge is not licensed to "split weigh".

Weighbridge Fees:

  • Up to 5 tonnes $14.00
  • 5 - 10 tonnes $15.00
  • 10 - 20 tonnes $25.00
  • 20 tonnes plus $35.00
